THE SUZU STORY

A letter from our Founder...

I’m Su-Elise, the Founder and Creative Director of SUZU® and I live in Sydney, AU.

My journey into sustainable swimwear didn’t start by the beach – it’s a long way from where I once called home.

I grew up in South London, a vibrant, fast-paced city with no sun, sea, or sand. As a teen, I channeled my creativity into music, joining the multi-platinum girl group Mis-Teeq.

Those were excess-filled years, where I lived by the motto ‘bigger is better.’ While I loved beach escapes, I didn’t yet understand or respect the environment as I do now.

The ocean calms my soul. Watching the waves and feeling the sand between my toes connects me to something deeper.

I discovered this after moving from London to Sydney and traveling around Australia, simply seeking happiness. The beach became my true happy place.

In recent years, Australia has faced devastating weather—bushfires, droughts, floods, and cyclones. It felt like Mother Nature was urging us to pay attention.

After each storm, I was shocked to see the amount of plastic and junk washed up on our beaches. The sight of our beautiful shoreline covered in debris was heartbreaking, knowing it had harmed marine life.

The sheer amount of plastic, fishing ropes, and junk washed up on our shores was overwhelming—tyres, fridges, even an aircraft seat! It was devastating.

While cleaning up what I could, I realised I wanted to do more. After researching how beach waste could be recycled into fabric, the idea for SUZU® was born!

Let’s put these fabrics to use, create beautiful swimwear, raise awareness, and help clean our oceans. I’m not saying we need to go total eco-warrior, but all small steps count, as long as we’re moving in the right direction.

Make the right choice... buy sustainable swimwear.
